Sawbridgeworth produced the biggest successful run chase in their league history as they beat Langleybury by four wickets on Saturday.

Replying to the visitors’ total of 307-8, the Saracens Hertfordshire League, Division One joint leaders made it five wins in a row with a sensational display with the bat as they reached 310-6 with 16 balls to spare.

They were given the best possible start by Alan Ison (52) and Rob Sanders (62) who put on 111 for the first wicket in 14 overs after the former had been dropped on 11.

Ison struck seven fours and a six from just 41 deliveries while Sanders’ 55-ball knock included nine fours.

Rehman Ahmed struck two maximums on his way to a quickfire 36 and when Hamish Wardell-Johnson was run out for 19, Sawbo were 202-4 in the 30th over.

Sayed Aziz took them over the line with an unbeaten 73 from 66 balls as he shared partnerships of 44 and 60 with Amit Gupta (24) and Michael Burrell (25) respectively before hitting the winning runs.

Earlier, the hosts had produced a largely indifferent bowling and fielding display and the ‘Bury racked up over 300 against Sawbo for the second successive time, having scored 339-8 when the teams played on their ground in August last year. Despite piling up a mammoth score, not one of their players reached 50 with Ross Channer top-scoring with 44.

Matt Billings, who was skippering the side for the first time in a month, took 4-51 in eight overs with Gupta (2-77), Ison (1-37) and Burrell (1-45) claiming the other wickets.

However, the hosts more than made amends with the bat as they also recorded the biggest winning chase at the ground by any first team in the league, beating Welwyn Garden City’s 305-9 in August 2016.
