The 2nd team started their league season with the long journey to Northwood, the home team won the toss and elected to bat. Northwood came out firing, scoring 160 runs for just 2 wickets in the first 25 overs. A couple of quick wickets after drinks reigned in the scoring, terrific death bowling from Travis Morgan and Sean Lemon meant that the home team set a target of 300 to win on what was proving to be a friendly batting track. Luke Garratt (80) dominated the early scoring whilst other batters fell around him. Once Luke was dismissed Sawbridgeworth sat at 133 still needing 167 from 20 overs. A steady 40 from Charlie Robinson provided some middle order stability, once he fell it brought Nick Dale (50) and Sam Shemwell (44) to the crease who delivered a wonderful 80 run partnership to drag Sawbridgeworth back into the game. Shortly after scoring his first league 50 Dale was dismissed. The visitors finished on 271, 29 short of the required target, a defeat for the first game of the season but many positives and 18 points out of a possible 20 to take from it as we host Frogmore next week.
