Sawbridgeworth 3rd XI made a perfect start to their Tees Herts and Essex Border League Division One campaign on Saturday with a comprehensive eight wicket win over Potter Street and Church Langley.
Under the tutelage of new skipper Adam MacDonald, they dominated proceedings in a rare game at club’s main ground at Town Fields, as they dismissed the visitors for just 102 in 33.1 overs.
Charles Robinson (3-10) broke an opening partnership of 33 between Mashood Iqbal (46) and Dhirav Monav (15) as he led a very impressive four man spin attack to which their opponents offered little resistance.
Kieran Morgan (1-30), Andrew Foster (3-8) and Romesh Paktsun (2-21) with Alfie Burrell instigating a run out after he had earlier conceded just 12 runs in his five over spell with the new ball.
In reply, Sawbo reached their target midway through the 20th over after Rhys Ashman (36) and James Bovaird (41*) had put on 85 for the first wicket. Osman Malik (2-8) dismissed Ashman and Morgan (9) in quick succession before Bovaird hit the winning runs.
Having finished third last term, Sawbo will be looking to go one better this time around but will face much tougher challenges as the season continues.
