The Sunday first team entertained Little Ilford for the first time yesterday with the visitors chasing down a victory target of 195 with five wickets and one over to spare.
Having crawled to 43-2 at the halfway stage, Sawbridgeworth did well to reach 194-7 from their 40 overs with Rhys Ashman (51) adding 48 for the fourth wicket with Adeel Dar, who top scored with 66 from 54 balls with seven fours, three sixes and a five!
Kieran Morgan smashed 36* in 21 deliveries as we scored 94 from the last 10 overs to post a competitive score before history was made when he opened the bowling with his son Travis – the first time a father and son have taken the new ball in a first team game.
Kieran ended his first over by taking a return catch to dismiss Usman Chawdhry (4) before Sam Shemwell (6-0-41-1) later struck with his fourth delivery when Ashfaq Patel was bowled for 10 to leave the visitors 51-2 in the ninth over.
Ali Akthar (52), and Jawwad Hussain, who was playing against his new club, took the score to 84 before the former was cleaned up by slow left armer Ben Doyle, who marked his debut with excellent figures of 1-23 in his eight overs.
Romesh Paktsun claimed the wicket of Riz Chaudhry (9) in an even more miserly spell of 8-1-17-1 before Umair Chawdhry (9) holed out to Oliver Mitchell off the returning Morgan senior, who finished with figures of 2-44.
Faz Chawdhry (31*) joined Jawwad Hussain with the game in the balance at 115-5 but the pair took the visitors to victory at the end of the penultimate over with Hussain finishing 72 not out.
