Sawbo travelled to St Margaretsbury feeling hopeful that we could turn around our recent run of losses against a team that we steamrolled in the first game of the season.
We lost the toss and were put into bat. Thomas and Jake opened the batting, and were looking solid against some decent bowling until one sneaked under Jake's bat in the last ball of the over from their quickest bowler.
Thomas continued to construct a solid innings in partnership with Louis, picking the right shots to hit to the boundary and not rushing to get to retirement at 25.
Louis was his normal busy self making sure that we picked up lots of byes, and also threw in the only 6 of the match. Sammy came in and after setting himself he accelerated with four 4's of consecutive balls. He was eventually bowled on 23 as he tried to go out in style.
Isaac and Harrison finished the innings pushing for more runs and we were very happy with a final total of 142, our highest of the season.
Having bowled this team our for 29 in the first game of the season we were feeling confident as we went into bowl, but the opposition team performed much better this time around.
There weren't many wickets falling as two of their batters got to retirement, but we fielded really well as a team and managed to get enough of them out to slow the run rate. They left themselves chasing about 30 runs from the last four overs, and some great work particularly from Sammy's catching and Ethan's nerveless final over left them 8 runs short.
There was a great team spirit in the field and it was the overall good fielding and lack of 'Wangers' that made the difference in a close match.
Thanks to Aiden S. for helping out his mates at a few minutes notice in his first ever game of cricket for the club, and Ed B-J for stepping up also.
Rich Weller - thanks for scoring. For info its normal to use two pages in the book - one for each innings!
