We lost to Hertford early in the season in what was probably out worst batting performance this year, so I was really hoping to put that right this time around. It was also coming off the back of the Broxbourne game last week where we only managed to bat for 16 of our 20 overs and ended up 15 runs short........

Hertford won the toss and put us in to bat, and straight away you could see a change in approach with our batting with Thomas and Eddie looking like they could bat all day without getting out. Both opening batsmen went on to retire.

Jake came in with his normal reliable performance to also retire, and the rest of the team batted around them with a more mature approach including an unusually high number of defensive shots!

We finished the innings on 121 which looked like it would be too big a challenge for a young Hertford team.

To be fair to Hertford they batted solidly for all of their overs and showed a great ability to keep the scoreboard ticking over with singles even though they were struggling to hit boundaries.

The pick of our bowling was probably Harrison with two overs of very controlled spin that only conceded one run.

Unfortunately we did contribute to keeping their score ticking over with an unusually large number of extras from wides, no balls and byes. Hopefully this is just a one off as our bowling and fielding is normally really strong.

Hertford never really looked like keeping up with the required run rate and managed to get to 106 for 5 of their 20 0vers.

Well done to the boys for trying to bat in a more disciplined was as we have asked them to. If we can match disciplined batting with our usual accurate bowling then I think we will be a challenge for any team in this league.

And thanks to Ed B-J and Eddie Jackson for stepping up and helping out as we were a a bit short of our usual players.
